Rochester Public Music brings people together through concerts, cultural programs, and music education. Our events are free and public by design.

We turn parks into concert venues, bring artists into classrooms, and share music across neighborhoods. Our work is rooted in shared experience, local connection, and the belief that music belongs to everyone.

Music with Purpose.

Rochester Public Music is a department of the City of Rochester.

Our Programs

  • FORWARD Park Concerts: Free summer concerts in Rochester parks. Local bands, local food, and space for everyone to gather.
  • Riverside Music Series: Live music. Big names. No tickets. Large-scale concerts featuring chart-topping acts and rising stars.
  • Sound School: In-school residencies where students explore rhythm, movement, and musical identity — from hip hop and taiko drumming to close-harmony singing.
  • Passport Sessions: Free outdoor concerts during Thursdays Downtown, celebrating culture and connection through sound.

10,000 MANIACS - One of the most critically acclaimed bands of the last three decades. Together with artists like R.E.M., 10,000 MANIACS defined college rock and created the first wave of alternative rock bands and what became know as the alternative rock format on FM radio, with hits like “These Are Days”,  “More Than This”,  “Candy Everybody Wants”, and “Because The Night”.

Trapper Schoepp - This Minnesota-born, Wisconsin-based tunesmith and teller of tales (both tall and true), has earned notices in Rolling Stone, American Songwriter and Paste, with the folks at Huffington Post calling him a “master storyteller” and PBS hailing his “story songs that explore and explode the conventions of rock and roll.” His latest album ‘Primetime Illusion’, produced by Wilco multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansome, features a co-write with Bob Dylan on the track ‘On, Wisconsin’.
