Rochester Public Music brings people together through concerts, cultural programs, and music education. Our events are free and public by design.

We turn parks into concert venues, bring artists into classrooms, and share music across neighborhoods. Our work is rooted in shared experience, local connection, and the belief that music belongs to everyone.

Music with Purpose.

Rochester Public Music is a department of the City of Rochester.

Our Programs

  • FORWARD Park Concerts: Free summer concerts in Rochester parks. Local bands, local food, and space for everyone to gather.
  • Riverside Music Series: Live music. Big names. No tickets. Large-scale concerts featuring chart-topping acts and rising stars.
  • Sound School: In-school residencies where students explore rhythm, movement, and musical identity — from hip hop and taiko drumming to close-harmony singing.
  • Passport Sessions: Free outdoor concerts during Thursdays Downtown, celebrating culture and connection through sound.

JigJamWhen virtuoso Irish playing meets bluegrass and Americana, JigJam is born. Hailing from Offaly and Tipperary, JigJam brings the roots of bluegrass back to America with a highenergy, foot-stomping live show. The band made a celebrated debut at the Grand Ole Opry in March 2023, earning a standing ovation from a sold-out crowd.

Founding members Jamie McKeogh (guitar) and Daithi Melia (banjo, dobro), along with Gavin Strappe (mandolin, tenor banjo), and Kevin Buckley (fiddle), form this powerhouse iGrass (Irish Bluegrass) quartet. Described as "Ireland's answer to New Grass Revival," JigJam embodies the spirit of Irish music and its influence on bluegrass.

A weekly summer staple of downtown Rochester, Thursdays Downtown combines arts, music, food, and a vendor market into one free community-uniting, block-party-style event! Every week, enjoy life, feel a sense of place, and interact with others at Thursdays Downtown. Your taste buds will be satisfied with enticing foods and musical styles, too. The festival runs every Thursday from June 13 - August 15, except July 4.
