Rochester Public Music brings people together through concerts, cultural programs, and music education. Our events are free and public by design.

We turn parks into concert venues, bring artists into classrooms, and share music across neighborhoods. Our work is rooted in shared experience, local connection, and the belief that music belongs to everyone.

Music with Purpose.

Rochester Public Music is a department of the City of Rochester.

Our Programs

  • FORWARD Park Concerts: Free summer concerts in Rochester parks. Local bands, local food, and space for everyone to gather.
  • Riverside Music Series: Live music. Big names. No tickets. Large-scale concerts featuring chart-topping acts and rising stars.
  • Sound School: In-school residencies where students explore rhythm, movement, and musical identity — from hip hop and taiko drumming to close-harmony singing.
  • Passport Sessions: Free outdoor concerts during Thursdays Downtown, celebrating culture and connection through sound.

PEACE PLAZA STAGE:

7PM: PISTOL WHIPPIN' PARTY PENGUINS
"Straight from the great Mill City comes the Pistol Whippin Party Penguins. Don't let the name fool you! This is not a violent group of flightless aquatic birds looking for a party, but rather 5 self proclaimed gentlemen, 2 guitars, a mandolin, a bucket of fiddles, an upright bass, a banjo, and a 4 part vocal harmony that will make Rush Limbaugh wanna pay taxes. As they prepare to record their 3rd album this winter, this quintet from Minneapolis strives to maintain the original spirit of the "string band" while continuing to play new original music and creative cover songs. The combination of folk, rock, blues, bluegrass, and the occasional stage banter will create an experience that anyone can enjoy!"

1ST AVE. STAGE:
5PM:
The Shift
7PM:
RICHIE LEE & THE FABULOUS '50s
Richie Lee & the Fabulous 50's band from Des Moines, Iowa, who is now 23 years old. This band has great energy and everyone of all ages loves to hear that good O'l Rock'n Roll. The band's ability to get the crowd dancing can be traced to Lee's drive to stay true to the original songs.Richie Lee is adamant that Buddy Holly's music "not fade away." "I want to bring back this sound for kids so it's not forgotten.I want them to hear what real Rock 'n Roll music sounds like."
