Riverside Concerts presents the Rochester Concert Band under the direction of guest conductor Rachel Light-Diede performing a concert in tribute to the anniversary of our country’s independence at the Silver Lake Park soccer field. The concert is FREE to the public and will precede the fireworks display. Brought to you by Riverside Concerts and the Rochester Parks and Recreation Department. This annual event celebrates the rich and diverse talent of our community, commemorates the anniversary of our country’s independence with patriotic favorites, both old and new, and is the overture to one of the finest fireworks displays in the area. From Broadway hits to patriotic classics, with a dash of classical thrown in for good measure, the band offers up a little something for everyone; with a few surprises. Nothing says “summer” like a band concert in the park.

Selections to include John Philip Sousa’s “Washington Post March”, Ticheli’s “Shenandoah”, Gershin’s “Summertime”, Horner’s “Apollo 13”, and the traditional July 4^th concert finale P.I Tchaikovsky’s "1812 Overture” and John Philip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever”.

Ms. Light-Diede received a Masters Degree in Performance and Education in 2007 from The Hartt School in Hartford, CT, studying with acclaimed clarinetist Alan R. Kay, principal player of Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in New York.  She attended The Boston Conservatory as a scholarship recipient, and graduated with honors in 2005 as a student of Scott Andrews, clarinetist of The Boston Symphony Orchestra. An inspired and dedicated teacher, Ms. Light-Diede maintains a private studio and teaches band, choir, music history and piano at North Lakes Academy.  Previously she taught at Miss Porter’s School, The Boston Arts Academy and The Hartt School. Ms. Light-Diede’s past performances include various orchestras throughout the metro area,  featured soloist with the Rochester Chamber Music Society, participant at Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music in New Hampshire, studying with Kinan Azmeh, and an impromptu concert at the former home of Constanze Mozart in Salzburg, Austria. She now serves as Principal Clarinet of the Dakota Valley Symphony and was honored to perform the Mozart Clarinet Concerto during their 2017 concert season.
