Approve the request from Chief Peterson dated May 15, 2017, for the Mayor to appointment one (1) fulltime Police Captain, effective May 25, 2017, due to the retirement of Captain Tim Heroff on April 28, 2017.

Approve the request from Chief Peterson dated May 15, 2017, for the Mayor to appointment one (1) fulltime Police Lieutenant, effective May 25, 2017, due to the promotion of a Lieutenant on May 25, 2017.

Approve the request from Chief Peterson dated May 15, 2017, for the Mayor to appointment one (1) fulltime Police Sergeant, effective May 25, 2017, due to the promotion of a Sergeant on May 25, 2017.
Agenda Item 6
Approve the request from Chief Peterson dated May 23, 2017, for the Mayor to temporarily appoint a Police Lieutenant and Sergeant, pursuant to Rule 21A, due to the administrative leave of a current Lieutenant.
SECTION 21A. TEMPORARY APPOINTMENT: (ADOPTED 1/4/96)
There are expected to be temporary vacancies from time to time in positions of higher rank than Police Officer. These vacancies may result from long-term disability, military call-up, or approved leaves of absence. During such temporary absences the Commission may, upon written request of the Chief, certify a person for temporary appointment by the Mayor to the vacant position. Such certification must be from a promotional roster for that position. The temporary appointment may be conditioned upon to run for a certain period of time or upon the happening of a certain event, … In no event, however, shall the temporary appointment continue for more than one (1) year.
